A fantastic new feature designed to make your workflow easier and quicker giving you more time to do the things you love to do- like being creative behind the camera!
This feature was actually born by members of theimagefile wanting a way to give someone editing access to a collection without giving them login details. Well, now you can with Admin Links. Admin Links are a great way of outsourcing tasks to another person or company, reducing your workload without risking your security.
Who Would Use Admin Links?
Potentially any photographer who wants an extra pair of hands to help them, however, we did have some specific people in mind.
Many photographers now work with a second shooter, particularly at weddings. Although it is often great to have another pair of hands and eyes on an event, it can slow things down when you get back to the office. To get those files online you had two options – ask for the files to be sent to you for you to then upload or get the second shooter to access your account to upload the files themselves.
Now you can enable file uploads by a third party into a collection, decreasing your own workload and keeping your business secure. Win-win!
Secondly, if you are covering BIG events, such as sailing regattas or marathon races, where images need to searchable, Admin Links could be your secret weapon. In the past, you would have had to keyword each image with a competitor’s bib/boat number so that the image could then be found and purchased. This could take hours or even days, and if not done quick enough would have missed the boat (no pun intended) and the post-event frenzy that helps orders fly in. Now, you can use any third-party to add keywords within a collection, not only saving yourself time but also speeding up your workflow so that you can get those images out to customers while that emotion is still hot.
How Do Admin Links Work?
It’s really simple to set up.
After setting the options available for the admin link, a unique URL is created for you to send to your outworker. There is a really simple step-by-step help article explaining it. The admin link URL offers direct access to the collection so that the outworker can edit or upload to the collection and any lower-level sub-collections.
Instructions for easy keyword editing are also available for the outworker when they log in. It couldn’t be easier.
To ensure you have complete control there is a full changelog showing all the changes that have been made and you can revoke access to the outworker at any time simply by deleting the admin link or pre-setting a date to delete the admin link preventing any further edits.
If you have other workflows that would benefit from admin links then we would love to hear from you so we can pass it on to others.
