Shocking Facts About Social Media!

Brace yourselves everyone, because we’re about to talk about the all-important topic of social media…

In blissful times gone by, social media was just another page on a website, rarely used or updated, but no longer! In recent years it has grown exponentially, developing its own language, community spirit and humour. Therefore, we must learn to embrace it!

We realise that some of you are probably there saying “social media is a waste of time for my business because only young people use it”. Well, I hate to break it to you but social media is no longer the teenage domain. Over the past year the fastest growing demographic on Twitter was the 55 to 64 age bracket and according to this study, mothers with children under the age of five are the most active on social media. (Are you listening tchild and baby photographers?!)

Social media: Voice and identity

Perhaps the greatest element of social media for business is the ability to have conversations with your potential customer and other businesses. Much like a physical store, although you can’t really leave your shop when its open! Establishing your voice goes hand-in-hand with your identity online, and it’s important to understand you may not get this right the first time, or even tenth time of trying. it’s a learning curve you will go through.

Social Media: Taming The Beast

To say that social media for photographers is not important is like saying we have no need for cars. Some may argue vociferously with that comparison but as with the advent of the car, humanity has gone through another major technological advancement in the last ten years. This means that the digital environment is now the background, foreground and every other ground in between. The minute the majority of us stop checking our personal devices every other five minutes, wherever we are, will be the time to denounce this.
