It’s officially 2018 (where has the time gone)! For us, January means so many lovely things; from getting our heads back in the game to setting some exciting goals for the coming months.
One of our favourite things about January is the light. I know, I know – the weather is still pretty dreary, it’s still quite cold and we’re forced to huddle inside next to burning log burners wearing big jumpers, but the light is actually lasting a little bit longer every day. Allowing us a few more minutes of daylight does wonders for the moral and makes everything seem like it’s heading in the right direction.
January is also the month of fresh starts. It’s the beginning of the year and many of us feel like now is the time to think about the achievements and differences we want in the months ahead. We are filled with the need to clean up our lives; whether literally clearing things out or simply taking a step back and reviewing where we are now and where we would like to be this time next year.
Speaking of reviewing things, now is also the time of goal setting and new years resolutions. I know most, if not all of us, are guilty of letting many of our resolutions fall by the wayside but I hope this year whether you have vowed to have a healthier lifestyle, gain more clients and bookings or to spend more time appreciating the little things, you achieve it.
Happy New Year!
December family photos are so festive and the perfect addition to every household. Yes, the Christmas cards may have been sent by now but they are perfect images to use for Christmas thank you cards or perhaps in a new year email update.
Some of our favourite things about December family pictures is the chance to capture all those iconic Christmas moments; from choosing a tree or wreath to spending some quality family time together in the great outdoors or at home snuggled up in bed. These precious moments fly by so fast especially when children are little, and a family portrait session is a great way of keeping a memento of those magic moments for years to come.
They’re also the perfect time to include your furry friends! Who doesn’t love a dog in antlers and Christmas lights?
December weddings are stunning. They are such a unique event that really does happen only once a year, and that is why they are one of our absolute favourites.
There are so many lovely details that come out in December weddings. We love the deep, dark hues that can be seen appearing here and there. The drama of darker bouquets and floral displays, as well as the elegance of deep coloured bridesmaid dresses, get to us every time.
We also adore the use of candles in any aspect of a wedding day; from a beautiful candlelit ceremony to tall pillar candles being the centrepiece of each table. They are incredibly dramatic and elegant and yet keep the cosy atmosphere of the season.
The most iconic aspect of any wedding is, of course, the dress. One trend that we love to see over the Christmas period is the “wrapped up bride”. The use of a beautifully bright shawl or a fur coat to keep the winter chill away looks like something from a fairytale when paired with a wedding dress. We’re thinking Little Red Riding Hood, or perhaps the Snow Queen from Narnia. Equally, we love when a bride uses Christmas as a chance to embrace sparkles on a magnificent scale. Whether it’s sparkling embroidery on a dress, crystals on a veil or glitter just on the shoulders leading to a beautiful cape, we can’t get enough of it. It completely embodies the idea of a real-life Christmas fairy and when paired with falling snow, there is nothing more magical.

December engagements are truly magical. We can see why they call it “the most wonderful time of the year”. There are so many engagement shoot options available to the December couple, but here are just a few of our favourite elements.
You have so many festive locations available to you because everywhere looks beautiful at this time of year. If your couple lives in the centre of a city you could search out some festive events that you think would make a good photo location; some examples might include Christmas markets, ice skating, or simply walking amongst the brightly lit streets. Alternatively, if the lovebirds live in a more rural location you might be able to visit a Christmas tree farm for a bit of festive fun, or perhaps just a romantic stroll through a wintery woodland would do the trick.
This is really the only month when you have the opportunity to use as many festive colours and props as you want. If you are a Christmas nerd then you could go the whole hog with Christmas jumpers, lights and crockery galore. If you prefer a more glamorous Christmas theme then perhaps a knockout outfit in a festive colour is the way to go. Or equally, if you don’t want too much of the Christmas theme going on but still want a bit of the seasonal magic, perhaps just a festive makeup product is for you.
Without a doubt, December is a month that cannot be beaten in terms of emotion. It is a time filled with love, laughter and goodwill – call it festive spirit, Christmas magic or just being stuck inside with your loved ones whether you like it or not. So what better time is there for an engagement shoot?
It’s December! Which means that we are allowed to be officially excited for Christmas. There are so many things that we love about this month but here are just a few of our favourites.
A large portion of the country will be experiencing snow this month and regardless of whether you find it heavenly or a hindrance, you have to admit that it is an essential part of December. Personally, we love it. The ground looks perfect, the windows are frosty, the trees are sparkling and everything has an air of magic about it.
Christmas shopping! We all have a love/hate relationship with it. Yes, it’s stressful and busy and a bit elbow bashing at times, but we can’t help but love the excitement that comes along with it. Seeing everyone rushing to and fro with armfuls of bags and boxes just puts a smile on our face.
And finally, Christmas decorations have got to be the biggest December love of ours. It’s the only time of year where it’s appropriate to put a tree in your living room and put hundreds of lights everywhere. We love the wreaths, the trees, the candles, the lights, the holly and the mistletoe. For us, that is when December comes alive and casts its magic.
