It’s officially September! The kids are back at school, holidays have been enjoyed and the summer weather is slowly starting to fade. Although that is a sad prospect, we can’t help but look forward to all the things that early autumn will bring.
Early autumn is a lovely time of year. We still have some of the light left from summer, but things are slowly getting slightly cooler and cosier. Gardens are starting to get winter ready, the leaves are starting to change colour and the occasional rain shower can be seen.
Things are also changing in the house. Hot cups of tea are on order, soup is being made, cosy blankets are being brought out from their summer hibernation and sweater weather is on the way. This is also a time when we get our teeth back into the business and give everything an autumn freshen up so that we can get cracking towards, dare I say it, Christmas sales!
August is the perfect time to schedule a family photo shoot. The weather is gorgeous, the days are long and the sun is shining.
In our opinion, there is nothing better than capturing those precious moments of children running wild before it’s time to go back to school. It’s a special time of the year with beautiful, golden natural light and lush greenery.
You could suggest that the family get outside to a local park or rural area for some beautiful portraits that completely embody the great British summer. Perhaps you have a favourite book or film that could be recreated? “Peter Pan with the lost boys”, “Famous Five” or even “We’re All Going On A Bear Hunt?”
Alternatively, if you live near the coast then you could capture some really stunning summertime portraits. Perhaps building sand castles, paddling in the sea, playing tag with siblings (or a pet) or just having sandy cuddles?
August is the pinnacle of summertime. The time when vivid colours, hot weather and the term “summer holidays” come into their own.
Many of us will be off to far off destinations to spend time in the sun, days in the sand and evenings cooling off in the pool. It’s a time when long, balmy days are spent catching up with friends, exploring newfound places and even having a sneaky ice cream (or ten!). Light, floaty summerwear is a must if you intend to survive the heat, plus pastel sorbet colours and exotic florals are on huge display!
What is your favourite part of August?
We love July weddings. The weather is lovely – the perfect mix of heat and breeze – and is the perfect opportunity to host an outdoor wedding, not to mention take inspiration from nature itself.
For us, July weddings mean fresh white marquees. They look beautiful in the grounds of a stately home, on a family farm or even in a back garden. Not to mention that they are the perfect blank canvas for every couple’s style.
Pastel colours are another favourite for July. The soft shades translate perfectly to all aspects of a wedding day – from the dress to the cake to the flowers. Speaking of flowers, we love the big blooms and floral crowns that appear this month. Nothing says summertime like festoons of flowers!
July is also the perfect time for delicate lace to make an appearance on wedding dresses. It’s the perfect detail – light enough to cope with the summer warmth but still holding on to the freshness of Spring. We love it!
We also love food trucks! Who doesn’t? The perfect addition to any summertime bash. There are so many variations available now – from pizza trucks to paella fellas to wrap chaps. You can also get complimenting drink trucks. I’m sure by now we have all heard of the Prosecco van and pop-up gin bar trend!
What is your favourite thing about July weddings?
July engagements are truly beautiful. Now that the sun is making a regular appearance and the weather is that little bit warmer, there are so many pre-wedding shoot options available.
Some ideas are to visit a local park or botanical garden. We love the outdoorsy nature of these engagement shoots as well as the beautiful greenery colours that just scream British summertime.
If you are lucky enough to live by the sea then the coastal vibe is definitely your top choice. The freshness of the coast, the beautiful cool colours and the lovely reflections of the water couldn’t be more romantic for a newly engaged couple.
Finally, you could really embrace the spirit of impending summer by photographing your couple on a sweet ice cream date, breakfast at an outdoor cafe, or even a day at the fair. Who wouldn’t love super romantic photos on a Ferris wheel?
